Southwest Tennessee Recycling Hub Facility Brings Recycling to Rural Areas of the State
Scotts Hill, TN -- December 5, 2011 -- Recycling Marketing Cooperative in collaboration with Sonoco Recycling is proud to announce the opening of the Southwest Tennessee Recycling Hub in Scotts Hill, TN. This recycling hub facility, the first in Tennessee, brings single stream processing of recyclable materials to cities, counties, and industries in rural Tennessee areas with plans to replicate recycling hub facilities across Tennessee and into other states in the Southwest. The Southwest Tennessee Recycling Hub currently is partnering with six counties in West Tennessee and already is working with other rural areas in Middle and East Tennessee.
The counties and municipalities currently partnering with the Southwest Tennessee Recycling Hub include: Decatur, Hardeman, Henderson, Hickman, Lewis, and Perry Counties, and the town of Scotts Hill. The Southwest Tennessee Recycling Hub Facility will collect and process recyclable materials within a 50-mile radius of the Scotts Hill facility. The Southwest TN Recycling Hub Facility will include a Training Facility and staff to provide technical assistance, recycling program development, and train solid waste managers to take ownership of their programs.

The Recycling Marketing Cooperative for Tennessee is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit formed in 1993 to assist local governments with technical assistance and marketing recyclables. Recycling Marketing Cooperative, governed by a 9-person board representing each division of Tennessee, began as an East Tennessee organization and in 1999 expanded services to include the entire state. Recycling Marketing Cooperative brokers recycling commodities through competitive bidding, insuring local governments and industries receive the highest dollar amount for their materials.
